After what seemed like an eternity, Bah’ren drove the twin Stingers right up the side of the ship, expertly mooring them against the hull. She stood up, but Russ shouted, “Stay in there.”

He could see the fear in her eyes.

At his words, she quickly crouched back down, one hand gripping Starland, the other wrapped around the lock bar.

Kendren fired up the secondary thrusters, and the Flashaway screeched into the air, lopsided, burning a twenty-foot concentric circle in the ground below.

The closest monitor wasn’t ready to give up and it leaped after them, catching one of the tailfins in its mouth.

The Flashaway continued its trajectory upward, blasting past where they’d tried to capture the Ryncyn, then past where they’d last seen the sleek SOL Pest Control ship. It surged upward so fast, the Ophidian didn’t realize it was a good idea to let go until they were several thousand feet in the sky.

Its scales glistened in the warm Proxima Imperatus sun as it fell.
